V-Ray 3 for SketchUp 2017... it's here!

2017-05-06

If you don’t know, V-Ray for SketchUp is an advanced rendering extension that uses simulated photon wizardry to generate photoreal 2D images and 360 degree stereoscopic exports for VR headsets. The interactive image below shows what some of this means in practice.

We'd like to think Chaos Group have been inspired by the 'simple is best' ethos of SketchUp; V-Ray is now more accessible to the everyday user with its much simplified interface. I don’t recall studying The Phong Reflection Model or Hemispheric Subdivides on an irradiance map in the physics lab at college; but the great thing is I don’t really need to know what they are just yet. The Quick Settings dialogue allows users to tune renders without having to pop the hood.

The interface has made a pretty big leap in simplicity and ease of use since previous iterations, but that doesn't make it any less powerful. The large array of complex settings are still there, if you're so inclined.
