But don't take our word for it: here's a look at five incredible days in Steamboat Springs...
If you’re reading this, chances are you couldn’t actually make it to 3D Basecamp. In truth, one purpose of this blog post is to make you feel that you can’t possibly miss our next event (so don’t!).
But beyond the FOMO, we really want to share some of the wisdom disseminated at 3D Basecamp. So, I’m happy to share that you can now watch presentations from 3D Basecamp 2016 on YouTube.
As if this crazy cache of SketchUp knowledge weren’t enough, 3D Basecamp also featured a ton of hands-on workshops that we didn’t record. Thanks to an incredible roster of presenters and instructors, Basecampers had some hard choices to make at this event. In fact, many attendees chose to attend both 3D Bootcamp (our first-ever dedicated training weekend) and also the main Basecamp event: a total of five intensive days of push-pulling!
Of course, all 3D and no play makes for sour Basecampers, so there was plenty of off-axis fun in Steamboat Springs. Whether you tried on a pair of VR goggles, learned to drive the drawbot in our Knowledge Cafe, or just caught up with some old friends, you had to work pretty hard not to have fun at 3D Basecamp.
It’s tough to peg one highlight of 3D Basecamp 2016, but I think I’ll always remember the incredible view at the (aptly named) Thunderhead Sunset Social. 3D Basecamp parties never disappoint, but it will be hard to top the one we had on top of a ski mountain. And in its third year, our community SketchUp Shootout (think Pictionary in 3D) is now, officially, my favorite drinking game.
About one month removed from Steamboat Springs, I do feel that the ‘Basecamp hangover’ is only now clearing out. The folks who work on 3D Basecamp (myself included) are not professional event planners. But when we started working on Basecamp, we did want to work on the best professional conference we’d ever been to. The location of the event, the technology, the passion, the learning, the friends, the teachers, the students, the fun, the firepit: they were all part of the recipe for the best 3D Basecamp ever.
We may have planned it that way, but it only happened that way because of all the great people who travelled to Steamboat Springs to meet, teach, and inspire. For me, that’s more than enough motivation to start thinking about our next 3D Basecamp… I have a feeling it will be be the best one yet.
